Rebecca Nzawa has completed her MSc in Epidemiology which she was studying on a part-time basis between 2019 and 2021 at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) through its distance learning programme. The Sustainable Community-Wide Active Case finding for Lung Health (SCALE) study provided her the scholarship to facilitate this.
Rebecca Nzawa joined MLW on 1 June 2017 and has been with the Public Health Group since then. She has previously worked under two studies as an Assistant Field and Data Manager, which include the UNITAID HIV Self-Testing Africa Initiative (STAR) – a large consortium of several organizations that implemented HIV self-testing in six southern African countries and the SCALE- a cluster-randomized trial for TB/HIV active case finding by community health workers in high-density and peri-urban residential areas of Blantyre. Currently, she is working as a Research Assistant for the SCALE study.
“I have received tremendous mentorship and support from my research group and department. I would especially like to acknowledge Professor Liz Corbett, our study PI, for always believing in me and providing me with this opportunity; Dr. Augustine Choko for his support; the public health group for always inspiring me, and the awesome Data family (Data department) for being the best team to work with,” said Rebecca Nzawa.
Rebecca Nzawa indicates that the skills and knowledge she has gained through this program will help her become a better research scientist and prepare her for the next academic chapter.
Asked how she feels, she had this to say, “I am over the moon and grateful to have attained this MSc from such a prestigious school.
Well done, Rebecca Nzawa!
