MLW’s Kafukufuku Building Officially Launched

On Monday 12 December 2021, Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme (officially opened doors of the Kafukufuku Building, a new structure erected at MLW premises. Kafukufuku building consists of offices and a pharmacy easing some of the pressure for space in MLW.

Director of MLW Professor Stephen Gordon said the building will be crucial in ensuring that MLW’s research quality matches international standards and expectations. Gordon further said the building will accord fieldworkers respect by providing them with a conducive environment for their research-related activities.

During the Kafukufuku Building launch, MLW’s research nurse Helen Mangochi was awarded K50,000 for naming the infrastructure “Kafukufuku Building. MLW staff competed to name the building.

“My motivation behind the name Kafukufuku is rooted in the work I have been doing since I joined MLW. Today, all of us have won since the building will add value to MLW’s works in research,” said Mangochi.
