MLW Staff Praised for Excellent Work Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

On 22 November 2021, MLW held the fourth and last staff forum of 2021 for all its members of staff to highlight and discuss focal developments around the research hub.

Speaking during the meeting, MLW’s Deputy Director Professor Henry Mwandumba applauded members of staff for their gallant fight against COVID-19 through hard work and teamwork.

“I would like to thank each one of you for your hard work which has helped in fighting COVID-19.  I acknowledged that the research institution has experienced highs and lows in the year 2021 and I appreciate the way we all worked through achieving greatness.

“On 19 November 2021, MLW got a cheque from NICO worth K10 Million towards the COVID-19 response. This shows that MLW’s work is being recognized – which is an achievement that we have to be proud of. We might have differences amongst us but putting that aside and building a good relationship is the key to unlocking success to benefit us all, and most importantly, to conduct excellent research,” said Mwandumba.

Among other speakers, the Chairperson of the Training Committee Dr. Kondwani Jambo expressed satisfaction with training statistics, saying that MLW has surpassed the target of students it had expected to train in the year 2021.

On training enrollment figures, Jambo pointed out that the number of African students is dwindling as compared to 2012-2017 when MLW used to training more students from the African continent.

Other speakers during the forum were Chief Operations Officer Aubrey Chalira, Human Resources Manager Limbani Medi, Associate Director Janelisa Musaya, Quality Assurance Manager Joshua Kaphika, and Representative of Staff Welfare Stephen Amos.

MLW adopted staff forums to facilitate interactions among members of staff and keep the institution integrated for the benefit of all.
