The Children’s Air Pollution Profiles in Africa (CAPPA) Study at Malawi Liverpool Wellcome (MLW) has schooled primary students about air pollution and its causes. The air pollution lessons were delivered in New Foundation Private, Naotcha Primary, and Namasimba Primary Schools to learners aged between 11 and 15 years.
CAPPA Study Project Manager Elizabeth Mkutumula said education is aimed at enlightening young ones on the causes and health hazards associated with air pollution.
“The main objective is to educate the students about air pollution, different air pollution sources in their environment, and how air pollution affects their lung health and those of people with asthma,” said Mkutumula.
Flora Mtukula, a standard 7B student at Namasimba Primary School, said the air pollution education will positively contribute to their wellbeing by highlighting dos and don’ts in line with lung health and asthma.
