MLW Researchers Shine at Research Dissemination Conference

Two of the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme’s (MLW) researchers have been decorated with research excellence awards at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences’s (KUHeS) 2nd Research Dissemination Conference (RDC) held in Blantyre from 3 to 4 November 2023.

During the RDC, MLW’s Infection and Immunity (I & I) Research Group Head Associate Professor Kondwani Jambo, was crowned the best senior male researcher, while MLW’s PhD student Dr. Marah Grace Chibwana, emerged as the best early-career female researcher.

In his acceptance pre-recorded  speech, Jambo attributed the award to the excellent collaboration and support he receives from various partners within MLW and beyond.

Jambo said, “I would like to thank the leadership of KUHeS, the leadership of RDC, and the leadership of MLW for all the support that I receive. I cannot do this alone without them. I would also like to thank and dedicate this award to the I & I Research Group at MLW as well as the Science for All Team.”

Also extending her gratitude through a video, MLW’s PhD student Dr. Marah Grace Chibwana thanked the RDC organisers, Associate Professor Kondwani Jambo, Professor Henry Mwandumba, the Infection and Immunity Research Group, the Science for All team, nominators, and voters for the support directed to her.

Aside from MLW the two-day Research Dissemination Conference held under the theme “Tackling Malawi Agenda 2063 priorities through a multidisciplinary approach” convened researchers working in the health space from several organisations and research centres including the Malaria Alert Centre, Partners in Health, and Johns Hopkins Research Project.
