MLW Research Strategy Group Successfully Concludes its Science Strategy Development Retreat

In a significant stride toward advancing research excellence, the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme (MLW) Research Strategy Group (RSG) arranged a Science Strategy Development Retreat on 7 November 2023 at Moneymen in Blantyre. The retreat sought to collaboratively craft a comprehensive science strategy that aligns with MLW’s future vision, providing a roadmap for impactful and innovative research initiatives.

With a considerable turnout of in-person and online participants via Teams, the retreat concentrated on achieving three primary objectives: developing a Science Strategy, collecting feedback, and identifying Research Priorities.

Marked by high participation and enthusiasm among RSG members, the Science Strategy Development Retreat emerged as a resounding success. The engagement from participants was remarkable. The RSG effectively gathered collective feedback from members which will play a pivotal role in shaping MLW’s science strategy, ensuring its validity, fullness, and reflection of diverse perspectives within MLW.

Furthermore, the discussions during the retreat paved the way for the formulation of theme strategies aligned with MLW’s vision for research innovation and health impact, serving as a guiding framework for future research initiatives.

MLW’s Deputy Director and the retreat chair Associate Professor Janelisa Musaya expressed gratitude to all members for their efforts in ensuring the retreat’s success.

Musaya stated, “I extend my deepest appreciation to RSG members for making this retreat a resounding success. Your enthusiasm and commitment fuel our collective pursuit of excellence in research. As we progress, the RSG will diligently work on finalising the science strategy, incorporating valuable insights shared during the retreat. Your continued support and collaboration will be instrumental in bringing this strategy to fruition.”

The RSG is focused on identifying key health challenges and new research priorities that MLW will undertake in the next decade, concurrently in drafting MLW’s science strategy. Building on the received feedback, the document will serve as a guiding framework for MLW’s research initiatives and will be shared with stakeholders and members.
