On Saturday 5 February 2022, Science for All, which is one of Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme’s initiatives to encourage students to take up careers in science, re-launched its school clubs in four schools – Zingwangwa, Stella Maris, Ngumbe, and Ndirande Hill Secondary Schools.
The event was graced by the Member of Parliament for Blantyre Malabada Honourable Ismail Mkumba; he commended MLW’s dedication to training the next generation of scientists and appealed to other organisations to follow suit.
“I request Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme to continue encouraging the learning of sciences. This is an initiative that will help students to be motivated in school, and to confidently express their scientific nature, which is necessary for growth in any science career or entrepreneurship. I hope that Malawi Liverpool Wellcome will continue this Initiative and include more schools and stakeholders for Science for All to become more impactful and a leader in science career guidance and growth,” said Mkumba.
The Member of Parliament also described the science for all initiative as a positive stride in the future development of local solutions to public health issues since young people will be inspired to take up careers in health research.
The Science for All Initiative was established in 2018 with the aim of promoting biomedical and clinical science careers amongst students in primary, secondary, and tertiary education.
The Project aims to inspire primary and secondary school learners to embrace biomedical careers.
MLW Associate Director Professor Janelisa Musaya said science is shaping people’s lives, and learners should cultivate a love for science.
MLW has plans in the pipeline to extend the Science for All project to other regions of the country soon.
