MLW Hosts Delegates from the Wellcome

The Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme (MLW) welcomed visitors from the Wellcome between the 20th and 23rd of March 2024 to acknowledge the research organisation’s contributions to health research and training.

In extending a warm welcome to the visitors, MLW’s Director, Professor Henry Mwandumba, highlighted the progress made by MLW, outlining success stories in research and operations aligned with its objectives.

The visit commenced with a tour of the Gateway Health Clinic, one of MLW’s satellite research sites, on the 20th of March 2024. This was followed by poster presentations and discussions with researchers and the operations team on the 21st of March 2024.

The eight-member Wellcome delegation included Dr. Alan Dangour, Director of Climate and Health; Dr. Jimmy Volmink, Chief of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer; Ben Ryder, Research Manager, Climate Impacts and Adaptation; Kim Donoghue, Senior Research Manager—Mental Health Translation; Tariq Khokhar, Head of Data Science and Health; Yolisa Nalule, Senior Manager of Major International Programmes; Georgia Walton, Researcher Manager for Early and Mid-Career Researchers, Discovery Research; and Dr. Modi Mwatsama, Head of Capacity and Field Development—Climate and Health.

Concluding their visit, the Wellcome  visitors toured the CREATOR Building, which is still under construction at the premises of the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme in Blantyre.
