MLW Donates Medical Supplies to Montfort Mission Hospital

On 10 November 2021, MLW with financial help from Febrile Illness Evaluation in a Broad Range of Endemicities (FIEBRE) study, donated assorted medical supplies to Montfort Mission Hospital in Chikwawa. This donation came in response to Montfort Mission Hospital’s outcry for medical supplies.

Speaking during the handover of the donation in Chikwawa, MLW’s Field Sites Manager Chimwemwe Theu said this donation is one way of appreciating Montfort Mission Hospital for being MLW’s partner and for helping MLW in research.

“When Montfort Mission Hospital asked for the provision of medical supplies, we did not hesitate because the hospital has helped MLW in its research, including providing office space. Not only will this donation help Montfort Mission Hospital guarantee health care access to people living in Chikwawa, but it will also help strengthen a long-lasting collaboration between MLW and Montfort Mission Hospital,” said Theu.

The donation that was made by MLW consists of medical supplies worth over MK 4 million. Some of the supplies include Erythromycin, Chlorpromazine, Chlorpheniramine, and Cloxacillin.

In his remarks on the medical supplies’ donation, Medical Director for Montfort Mission Hospital Dr. Patrick Phiri commended MLW for the timely donation and continued support. Phiri said the donation has come at a time when the hospital has a deficit of medical supplies.

“With this support from MLW, Montfort Mission Hospital will be able to provide quality health services to people in Chikwawa,” Phiri said.

Montfort Mission Hospital is a non-profit health service provider which according to Dr. Phiri, provides health services to over 100,000 people. This donation is expected to benefit nearly half of this population.
