MLW and FIEBRE Donate to Chikwawa District Hospital

After a month of donating medical supplies to St. Montfort in Chikwawa, MLW and the Febrile Illness Evaluation in a Broad Range of Endemicities (FIEBRE) study collaborated again to donate medical supplies worth K4 million to Chikwawa District Hospital on 2 December 2021.

MLW’s Sites Manager Chimwemwe Theu said MLW has donated the supplies as part of its way of assisting stakeholders to work with as it aspires to conduct excellent health research.

“The donation of medical supplies will help hospitals to fight the diseases that affect people of Chikwawa; it will also assist help to boost our relationship with the district hospital as we continue with our research in Chikwawa,” said Theu.

In her remarks, the acting Principal Medical Officer (PMO) of Chikwawa District Hospital Dr. Sheena Kaunda said the medical supplies will help to provide quality health care to communities within Chikwawa.

“This donation has helped in complementing the Malawi government‘s efforts in providing essential health services to the people of Chikwawa. While we needed the medical drugs to combat different diseases faced by the people of Chikwawa, MLW has come right at the point of our need, and we are grateful for this,” said Kaunda.

The donation that was made by MLW consists of medical supplies include Erythromycin 250, Qmycine (1000), Chlorpromazine 100mg (1000), Chlorpheniramine 4mg (1000), and Cloxacillin 250mg (1000).

Chikwawa has a total population of about 603037 people and the district hospital is a referral site for all other peripherals. Among other units which the medical supplies will serve are maternity wards, female wards, and paediatrics wards of the hospital.
