Malnourished children at risk of suffering from chronic diseases

By Angella Mkandawire

“Children are a future of the country.” Many are the times people use this saying both formally and informally. As much as this statement is true, there is need to consider what really make these children a great foundation for the future. It is only a healthy child who promises to contribute highly to the future of the nation.

Unfortunately, raising and maintaining healthy children in their early stages is not an easy thing to do. They are prone to suffering from different kinds of diseases and conditions including malnutrition. Lack of quantity and quality of food causes children to suffer from marasmus and kwashiorkor. Severe cases of such conditions put children at risk of suffering from chronic diseases.
