Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme Participates at Falling Walls Science Summit 2023

One for All, All for One Project Manager Rodrick Sambakunsi recently won a Falling Walls Award and participated in the Falling Walls Science Summit 2023 in Berlin, Germany on 7 November 2023. Through Sambakunsi, MLW was part of the global audience that was present at 2023’s #FallingWalls |#ScienceSummit23. The Falling Walls Science Summit is a prestigious three-day gathering uniting experts from various scientific disciplines to explore groundbreaking research and foster collaborative solutions for the challenges of humanity.

At the global summit, Sambakunsi and 20 other winners from across the globe pitched their projects to diverse audiences and industry leaders at a prestigious ceremony as part of the Science Engagement category. The Science Engagement category was aimed at showing brilliant projects that are bridging the gap between science and society to generate mutual learning and mutual benefits across the spectrum of public engagement in science and interactive science communication.

Sambakunsi’s pitch was about One for All, All for One, a Malawian-led collaborative project of creative engagement practitioners from Malawi, South Africa, and the UK, community groups from Malawi, health care professionals, health surveillance assistants, and researchers from MLW. The project aims to promote dialogue on vaccines and vaccine research using art. The One for All, All for One team has developed a comic book and an animation featuring fictional siblings Tadala and Mayeso who are found in a commotion of misconceptions and misinformation about vaccines but eventually propagate for community participation in vaccine research.
