MLW Takes TB Fight to the Streets of Blantyre

MLW joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 World TB day held annually on 24th March. This year’s theme “𝐘𝐞𝐬! 𝐖𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐁: 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭, 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫” is a call to reflect on the efforts that governments and organizations at local, national and international levels are putting towards ending TB, including combating the growing threat of drug-resistant TB.

MLW partnered with the Blantyre District Health Office, going around townships in Blantyre to spread awareness on the prevention, control and treatment of tuberculosis. The outreach culminated in a lively fanfare held at Bangwe Desert ground, which featured a music performance by popular local musician Piksy and the dissemination of findings from an MLW TB research project, Timasamala. The event provided an opportunity to share information on current MLW and KUHeS TB research projects, including M72 TB vaccine study trial funded by Gates Medical Research Institute, in an engaging and accessible format, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in the fight against TB.
