Climate change, Environment and Community Engagement at CREATOR
The CREATOR building faces south, with a direct view of the mudslides on Soche Mountain that occurred during Cyclone Freddy in February 2023. These mudslides caused the Chilobwe disaster when more than 500 people died. Climate change, weather instability and community vulnerability are urgent issues in our community
We will create informative displays on our South Lawn to describe the current state of Climate Change, the Environmental threats and Mitigation Strategies that can be deployed in Malawi and the means for Community Engagement with these issues to make a difference. The displays will be a focus for our visiting schools’ groups and community engagement functions on the south lawn.

Arboretum and Well-being spaces
To the south and east of CREATOR we will plant 700 indigenous trees to conserve the urban ecology, and Malawian indigenous species. In this space, we will position tables and benches to allow relaxed meetings and well-being time for researchers and health workers. This space, with trees and a stream, will be a part of Blantyre that remains beautiful, with birdsong and insect life, to remind us to care for creation.
Functions on the South Lawn
Our terraced South Lawn with science exhibits and shaded places to sit leads down to the CREATIONS café, whose khonde (veranda) forms a natural amphitheatre stage.
We will host events for bands and choirs, for presentations and VIP receptions, here in the heart of the Science Park at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

Great food, great conversations, and always new people from around the world to meet. A place for ideas to form, collaborations to gel, and teams to be built. Buy your breakfast, or your lunch, or bring your own. Coffee will always be hot, and the Fanta always cold!
