Sangwani has been awarded a three-year MultiLink Ph.D. studentship. The MultiLink Consortium is a UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)-funded programme based in Malawi and Tanzania that will design and test a system that identifies patients suffering from multimorbidity during emergency assessment in sub-Saharan African hospitals, optimize immediate treatment, and ensure post-discharge linkage to appropriate care. The overall aim is to reduce mortality and improve health-related outcomes for adult patients admitted to hospitals in this context.

Registered with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and supervised by Dr. Jamie Rylance and Dr. Felix Limbani, she will work in the Lung Health Research Group and her project will assess care delivery for multimorbidity in secondary settings.

Full of excitement, Sangwani had this to say, “I am honored to be awarded the studentship and am very confident that this will progress me in the right direction in my career and enable me to achieve my dreams. I look forward to working with my new supervisory team.”

Sangwani joined MLW in Nov 2019 as a Post-Master Intern with the Salmonella Research Group. Supervised by Professor Melita Gordon, Dr. Nicola Desmond, and Dr. Deborah Nyirenda she worked on a project that assessed the community’s understanding of typhoid fever and perceptions of the typhoid vaccine. Sangwani is grateful to her supervisory team and describes them as the best as they were open-minded and provided excellent guidance and support which nurtured her settling in and growth.

She is grateful for the MLW research environment as she has gained more confidence in her conduct of research and gained a broad skill set that has facilitated her career growth.
