A recent paper published by Dr. Eva Maria Hodel and colleagues highlights the differences in effectiveness between the highly controlled settings under which antimalarial drugs are tested and the real-life settings and ways they may be used in practice.
As part of an MRC methodology research grant held by Drs Ian Hastings & Anja Terlouw, Dr Hodel used mathematical models to simulate realistic antimalarial drug treatment practices in real-life settings that may either be impossible, difficult or unethical to test in trials.
